Your Spark, Pursuing What You Love

Finding your “Spark” is something that has been identified by the Search Institute as an interest or a passion that gives you joy and gives your life purpose. It could be any kind of sport or physical activity, art, drama, speech, debate, mock trial, dance, music, or working for a cause to help others. Your spark is unique to you.

Rock In Prevention’s online curriculum, Rock Digi, has lessons for multiple age levels that help students to identify their passions and strengths so they can live happy and healthy lives. These lessons give students the tools to set small and large goals. Students will have varying passions, and all of them are valid and what makes each student unique and special.

It takes self-awareness to think about what you love to do, what you’re good at, what you look forward to, and what is important to you. Some things to think about are your character strengths. What is it about your character that you are proud of? It is important to recognize all of your strengths and build upon them. Build a support team. These are the friends and family members that encourage and support the development of your Spark. Value and take care of your relationships with the caring people in your life.

Some steps people can take to find their spark are:

  • Think of their strengths
  • Think of their values and what is important to them
  • Build a support team full of friends, trusted adults, teachers, school counselors, etc.

Research shows that young people who have interests and passions are more resilient, do better in school, have better social skills, engage in fewer risk-taking behaviors, show more emotional well-being, and are more satisfied with their lives overall.

Our overall goal with Rock Digi is to help students build the skills needed to be successful and live their lives authentically.
